Presented to remarkable organizations, leaders and contributors to the community and the nation, the award has been granted every year since 1930 (except during WWII).
Past recipients of the award include civic leaders Honorable Thomas Dewey, Robert Moses, Robert Morgenthau and Ray Kelly; Mayors Fiorello LaGuardia, Robert Wagner, Rudy Giuliani and Michael Bloomberg, business leaders from industry and media, entertainers Oscar Hammerstein, Richard Rodgers and Tony Randall; and three generations of Rockefellers.
"The Hundred Year Association’s recognition of AFCEA’s impact, leadership and history goes back 68 years, when in 1955, AFCEA Founding Member, Brigadier General David Sarnoff received this prestigious Gold Medal Award.” said AFCEA President & CEO, Lt. Gen. Susan S. Lawrence. “Our chapters and student chapters support more than 31,000 individual and approximately 1,600 corporate members."
“As AFCEA is the leading Association for Global Security we are reminded of the unique history of AFCEA going back to the US Signal Corps during the War Between the States. Since our focus is rooted in American history and continued growth and innovation, what better way to continue the honor of AFCEA from its founding to today”, said The Hundred Year Association President, Clinton W. Blume, III.
“We are excited to mark this momentous event with the Inauguration of the Hundred Year Association’s Defense Founding Members. Incredible that 40+ AFCEA corporate members are eligible to join The Hundred Year Association and to celebrate their history and commitment to AFCEA, we wish to honor them at the event as well,” added association president, Clinton W. Blume, III.
In 1946, military and industrial leaders including Brigadier General David Sarnoff founded AFCEA in New York City. From these beginnings the Association would grow and evolve into a multidisciplinary global member organization. Today, the Association International membership represents 30 countries and consistently ranks among the top Global Defense Associations in the world. “Mr. Sarnoff’s enduring vision for STEM, excellence and innovation continues to inspire us,” said Ashley Becker AFCEA NY Founders Chapter, President Emeritus. “
“AFCEA and its member chapters have seventy-seven years of success built upon the shared passion to help military, government, industry, and academia provide technology, programs and solutions for global defense,” noted Ashley Becker NY Chapter President Emeritus. “From our earliest days, we were driven to provide our members with quality programming and networking opportunities. This is an exciting time for AFCEA, as we look toward our next century.” Becker added.
