The Hundred Year Association’s member, the New York Yankees (1903), lost its leader yesterday. George Steinbrenner, whose big wallet and win-at-all-costs attitude whipped the New York Yankees into a billion-dollar sports empire, died Tuesday morning (7/13/10). He had just celebrated his 80th birthday July 4. The Association has lost a good supporter and he will be sorely missed.
