On Saturday, April 5th, 2008 New York City celebrated the Tenth Annual Tartan Day Parade. Thousands of pipers, drummers, clans and Scottish organizations marched up Sixth Avenue in recognition of the Declaration of Arbroath and National Tartan Day.
The Grand Marshall was New York Giants place kicker – and New York’s newly discovered hero – Lawrence Tynes. Tynes was selected as Grand Marshall well before the Giants’ NFC championship game in which Tynes kicked the game-winning 47-yard field goal in overtime against the Green Bay Packers.
In keeping with tradition, The New York Caledonian Club (1856) which helps organize the parade, planned a full week of Tartan Week activities, including the famous pre-parade Ceilidh on Friday evening, a Tartan Week Cocktail Party, the Parade morning Kirking of the Tartan, and a Post Parade Party held at Stout NYC.
